Past ICCP Conference - Erfurt 2001
The conference shall do justice to Schiller's statement: "...man plays only then
and there where he is man in the fullest sense of the word and man is only there
man where he is playing..." (Friedrich Schiller, the great German poet, lived
and worked in Weimar, a city about 20 kilometres from Erfurt). The aspect of
play culture contained in this statement and the efforts toward effective ways in play and toy research and development mark the main working topics of the
conference:
Play and toys as mediator between child and culture.
Toys as means of opening up our technical world; toys and technical interest.
Position of play in the high-tech society, in the multimedia age.
Play in a changing environment: ecology and economy, toys and manufacturing of
toys.
Objectives of the conference:
To show the actual importance of play and toys from the point of view of play
culture and the cultural heritage; to come to conclusions for the education and
further qualification of educators; to give some advice to manufacturers of
toys.
To show ways for the development of technical interests and talents taking
into account actual developments and giving some guidance for the toy industry.
To make clear; problems for the toy industry resulting from the development in
the multimedia age (as result of scientific works advantages and disadvantages
shall be made clear and conclusions be derived).
To extend the international circle of interest in this topTo extend the international circle of interest in this topic by researchers
especially including scientists from Eastern European and developing countries
and to activate the worldwide discussion on the high importance of play and toys
for the human development.
